A MedWe Dialogue brings together a select group of experts to explore the intersection of climate change, security, and gender. The discussion focus on how climate risks exacerbate social, economic, and geopolitical vulnerabilities, with particular attention to the disproportionate effects on women and marginalized communities.

The objective is to present the main ideas from the analysis carried out by the five experts contributing to this publication. The session is designed to foster exchange among participants regarding projects and studies across the Euro-Mediterranean region, with the aim of enhancing resilience, promoting gender-responsive policies, and the role of international cooperation in mitigating these challenges. The discussion’s outcomes will contribute to promote joint initiatives in the framework of this programme.

This debate is organised within the framework of the MedWE (Mediterranean Women Empowerment) Programme, a joint initiative of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the IEMed. The primary objective of MedWE is to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region. This debate is being held ahead of the publication of the second edition of the MedWE Policy Series, titled Climate Crisis and Gender Equality in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: Emerging Security Risks.

The event is hosted by the American University in Cairo (AUC), in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business.
