Tackling online misinformation and AI-generated content in the Middle East

Amid the ongoing conflict and rising tensions between major regional powers in the Middle East, we turn our attention to the potential consequences of viral misinformation and the growing influence of AI-generated content on news and political landscapes.

A lecture by Shayan Sardarizadeh, Senior Journalist, BBC Verify. As a member of the data verification team, his work is oriented towards disinformation, conspiracy theories, verification, AI and extremism. In his publications, he alerts of the danger of fake news websites and of AI as a tool to create fake images and videos, known as “deepfakes”. He currently focuses on news related to the Ukraine War, the Arab-Israeli conflict and US politics.
